After conducting mas campaigns and nationwide jathas which culminated in a massive rally in Delhi last month, the CPI(M) and other major Left parties have decided to organise a national convention here to focus on Left intervention in national politics on July 1, party sources said.
This national convention would prepare a common minimum programme to project a non-Congress, non-BJP platform.
"The party and the mass organisations must be active in taking up people's issues and conduct sustained struggles concerning the problems of the basic classes, workers, farmers, agricultural workers and unemployed youth," a CPI(M) source said.
The CPI(M), whose strength came down sharply from 44 in the 14th Lok Sabha to 16 now, has decided to project the Left and secular forces as the alternative to the Congress and the BJP-led formations.
Party activists are carrying out demonstrations and agitations in different parts of the country on issues like the Right to Land and house sites, curbing price rise and Right to Food, Right to Education and Health, Right to Employment, ensuring social justice, against corruption, farmers issues and FDI in retail trade.
