Two persons including a police constable were injured in a clash between participants of a rally taken out by the CPI(M) and a group of people, stated to be BJP supporters, at Udaipur town in Gomati district today, police said.

The CPI(M) and the ruling BJP accused each other of instigating violence.

"We didn't grant permission to the CPI(M) for taking out the rally in Udaipur today. We gave permission for holding rallies at Karbook and other places of the district," Gomati SP Avula Ramesh Reddy said.

The participants had some disagreement with some people near a pond leading to the clash in which two persons were injured, he said.

CPI(M) state secretary Bijan Dhar accused BJP supporters of attacking the rallyists with brickbats and sticks.

Former ministers Badal Choudhury and Ratan Bhowmik were injured in the clash among others, Dhar claimed.

BJP general secretary Pratima Bhowmik alleged that Badal Choudhury spread violence from the rally and CPI(M) cadres attacked BJP supporters.
