CPI-M candidate Md Salim's assets decline

Even as assets of many candidates for the Lok Sabha polls have risen phenomenally since 2009, CPI(M) candidate from Raiganj Md Salim's movable assets have declined from Rs 45 lakh to Rs 33 lakh, though his medical practitioner wife has registered a Rs 8-lakh rise in assets, and she also bought a personal car too.
Salim has declared that he has gross total assets worth Rs 33,17,136 in his affidavit for the 2014 general election, while he had declared Rs 45,62,491 in assets in 2009.
Of the assets listed in his 2009 affidavit, he had declared Rs 36,26,558 as term deposit in SBI Parliament House branch.
The CPI(M) Central Committee member declared in his affidavit, with his nomination papers filed yesterday for the Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal, that he has a total cash deposit of Rs 18,19,212, including term deposit of Rs 17,85,846 at SBI, Parliament House branch in New Delhi.
Salim, former CPI(M) MP from the now non-existent Kolkata North-East seat in 2004-09, also declared in his affidavit investments worth Rs 14,82,424, while he has Rs 10,000 as cash in hand.
Salim had fought the 2009 election as the CPI(M) candidate from Kolkata North constituency, which he lost. This time he shifted to Raiganj where he is pitted against Deepa Dasmunsi of Congress and Pabitra Ranjan Das Munshi of the Trinamool Congress.
Salim's spouse Dr Rosina Khatun had Rs 28,60,215 as total movable assets in 2009, which has increased to Rs 35,80,277 in 2014, as per the addivaits.

Dr Khatun has an under-construction flat in a cooperative housing society at upmarket Salt Lake here for which an amount of Rs 9,70,000 was paid as per the 2009 affidavit.
In the present affidavit, the flat is shown as yet to be completed with the same Rs 9,70,000 paid for it.
She has also bought a Tata Indica car in 2011, the affidavit said.
