CPI-M leading the opposition Left Democratic Front in Kerala today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on moral grounds in view of the poor showing by the ruling UDF in the recent civic polls.
Talking to reporters at the 'AKG Centre' here, CPI-M State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said Chandy actually should accept the defeat in the civic polls and should step down.
Balakrishnan said when compared to the previous assembly polls, LDF received 3,27,217 votes more than the UDF in the civic polls. 'Still UDF is not ready to accept defeat', he added.
UDF suffered a setback in the civic elections, billed as the semi-final ahead of next year's assembly polls, as the LDF won a majority of local bodies in the two-phased elections, results of which were declared on November 7.
Continuing the attack against the government on the bar bribery scam, Balakrishnan said an impartial probe in the case was not possible under the UDF government. "So further probe should be done under the supervision of judiciary," he added.
