The state unit of CPI(M) has expressed serious concern over the spread of swine flu in Jammu and Kashmir, where five people have died and more than 90 people have been infected by the disease.
Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA-elect Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today called for a comprehensive and a concrete strategy to combat the pandemic.
Tarigami has asked the administration to launch a massive awareness campaign among people stressing on precautionary measures to be taken in order to prevent spread of the disease.
"It is like that our health authorities were caught unaware. If many cases tested positive for the H1N1 in last few years, why our health department failed to enhance infrastructure and launch an awareness campaign on precautions to be taken against this deadly flu in the state?" Tarigami asked.
He urged the Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra to intervene and order the health authorities to take concrete steps to prevent the spread of deadly virus.
"The hospitals in the state especially SKIMS, associated hospitals of Government medical colleges, district and sub district hospitals must be equipped with proper diagnostic centers and treatment facilities without any further delay."
