The IPFT, an ally of Tripuras ruling BJP Thursday alleged that opposition CPI(M) and INPT, were involved in the Madhabbari incident, where at least seven persons were injured when protesters opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill clashed with police on Tuesday.
Both the CPI(M) and the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) termed the allegations made by the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) as baseless.
Mevar Kumar Jamatiya, general secretary of IPFT, who is also the state Tribal Welfare minister in a press conference here Thursday alleged that "CPI(M) and INPT had hatched a conspiracy to destabilise the government. They were involved in the Madhabbari incident and indulged in violence, which resulted in police firing."
Jamatiya said "We demand a judicial inquiry into this incident to unearth the truth."
CPI(M) state secretary, Gautam Das said, "We condemn this baseless allegation made by IPFT. The allegation is completely baseless. None of our party was anyway involved with the incident. They are making this allegation only to hide their own misdeeds."
