A local CPI-M leader was arrested today for allegedly raping a woman constable repeatedly at her quarter in police line here in West Midnapore district.
"Local CPI-M leader Azizur Rahaman, a resident of Tildangra village in Garbeta police station, was arrested on the basis of the FIR lodged by the woman constable," Superintendent of Police Bharati Ghosh said.
The constable lodged the complaint at Kotwali police station and Rahaman was arrested from his village home, she said.
The man had been exploiting her for over a month and raped her repeatedly last night, Ghosh said, adding the constable also belongs to a place near Azizur's home.
A local court remanded him to 3 days of police custody after he was produced there later in the day.
