CPI-M today alleged the District Police was adopting an anti-democratic and autocratic attitude by not granting permission for public meetings and democratic agitations such as rallies or fast in the past three years.
Talking to reporters here, CPIM Tamil Nadu unit Secretary G Ramakrishnan said Police were promulgating 144 and regulatory orders for more than six months under the pretext of "Guru Pooja" functions and were issuing notice to those who participated in protests.
Even if the permissions for such protests were sought in advance, they were not given and intimation about denial of permission was given in the last minute.
"It looks like the Police are dictators who rule this district," he said in a hard hitting criticism against the Police.
If this "undemocratic" attitude continued, a state-level picketing and public meeting would be organised condemning the Ramanathapuram police, he added.
Demanding a CBI probe into the death of agriculture department official in Tirunelveli district, he alleged there was largescale corruption in the appointments in transport corporation and transfers in various departments.

He also alleged the law order in the state was worsening day by day and in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts alone 100 murders had taken place in the last 10 months.
He also sought a full-scale inquiry into the gunning down of 20 persons in police operation said to be against red sanders smugglers in Chitoor District of Andhra Pradesh.
He said tribals had been killed by the forest and Police officials. They should nab the mafia gang behind the red sanders smuggling and punish them.
He urged the Prime Minister to constitute Cauvery River Management Board to prevent Karnataka from going ahead with construction of new dams.
The CPI-M national level meeting to be held in Visakapatinam would decide about the alliance for the assembly elections in the state, due next year, he added.
