The CPI(M) today announced monetary assistance of Rs 10 lakh for relief and rehabilitation work in quake-hit Nepal.

The party has asked its members to collect funds to provide relief to the people of Nepal who have suffered from the "devastating" earthquake.

"The Polit Bureau has given a call to all party units to collect funds to provide relief to the people of Nepal who have suffered from the devastating earthquake which has led to thousands of deaths and massive damage to homes, property and infrastructure.

"As an immediate response, the Polit Bureau has decided to donate Rs 10 lakh for the relief and rehabilitation work" the party said in a statement.

More than 3,000 persons have been killed in the powerful 7.9-magnitude earthquake and over a dozen aftershocks that jolted Nepal and adjoining areas.

Meanwhile, an inter-ministerial team comprising senior officials from ministries of home, defence, external affairs and NDMA today left for Nepal to coordinate rescue and relief operations in the quake-hit country.
