The CPI(M) today decided to give a concrete direction to an all-out struggle against communal ideologies like Hindutva and 'neo-liberal' policies by uniting Left and democratic forces across the country.
On the third day of its 21st Congress here, the party adopted a political-tactical line to govern its future activities saying "the main direction of our attack should be against the BJP when it is in power but this cannot mean having an electoral understanding with the Congress."
The fight against the RSS and the BJP should also "not be reduced to merely electoral tactics", the report on the political-tactical line said.
"There should be an integrated approach of taking up the struggle of the people's livelihood along with the fight against communal forces and the Hindutva ideology. Only by integrating these struggles can we mobilise mass support against communal forces," the report said.
Briefing reporters on the deliberations, CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat said "altogether 229 amendments had been moved by the delegates to the report, 11 of which were accepted. The review report was put to the vote and accepted."
While priority would be given to enhance the independent role of the party and expand its mass base, restoration of the primacy of the Left and democratic Front and a programme for rallying the classes behind it for the struggle against communalism and neo-liberal policies would be the major focus of the party's future activities, the report said.
General Secretary Prakash Karat said that CPI(M) has also reviewed its organisational status over the past years at the ongoing Congress, that kicked-off on April 14.
The party today also adopted a resolution demanding reservation for scheduled castes and tribes in private sector jobs and resolved to run a campaign to bring pressure on the Centre to bring a legislation to help people of these communities, hit hard due to the 'anti-people' economic policies.
