CPI today questioned the timing of Malda violence and blamed TMC and BJP for it, alleging that it was an attempt by the two parties to polarise votes ahead of West Bengal Assembly polls.
CPI national secretary D Raja urged electors to foil the "designs" aimed at "destructing" secular fabric of the state.
"Both TMC and BJP should be held responsible for what is happening in Malda. This is happening on the eve of the elections.
"This leads to doubts if they are doing so to polarise votes. We urge people to foil the designs aimed at destructing the secular fabric," Raja said here today.
Raja expressed confidence that the people of the state "understand well" intentions of the two parties and will opt for Left Forces during the polls, likely to be held during April-May this year.
A rampaging crowd had set on fire Kaliachak police station and several vehicles while reportedly protesting against the alleged blasphemous remarks made by a pro-Hindutva leader in the first week of this month.
