Crack down on fishermen using banned fishing nets

Fisheries Department officials today began cracking down on fishermen using banned fishing nets and seized 16 boats.
Deputy Director of Fisheries Ganesha Pandian said there were series of complaints from various quarters about using banned fishing nets by the fishermen causing damage to marine environment and marine lives.
The officials said that cases had been registered against the boat owners for using banned fishing nets, he said.
