Crackdown on land grab: 3 cops injured in stone-pelting

Three policemen were injured in an alleged confrontation with the villagers at Dibai police station area here today over an illegal land grab issue, police said.
A sub-inspector and two constables were injured at Akbarabaas village here today after the villagers objected to the land consolidation process being carried out in the area and started pelting stones at the officers who had come to assist the process, Circle Officer Brahma Singh, Dibai police station said.
According to the police, the policemen had gone to the village against complaints of illegal possession of village land belonging to economically backward sections by a group of 25 strongmen of the village.
The strongmen have also been accused of stalling the land consolidation process since the last 30 years, Singh said.
Eight people from the village have been taken into custody in the incident, police added.
