"There should be no outside interference on the media and scribes should be allowed to work freely without any intimidation or threats," Lowangdong said while addressing the valedictory function marking 30 years of Arunachal Press Club.
Referring to the series of recent incidents of attack on media in the state, the Speaker said the media is the mirror of the society and it should be allowed to work as 'voice of the voiceless' without being suppressed.
"Press is the ideological weapon for the people through which they can express their grievances and problems and emancipation of the people depends on freedom of the Press," he added.
He said, media act as a constructive partner in socio-economic and political development of the state and people should realise the importance of the fourth pillar of democracy.
The Speaker later felicitated four senior journalists of the state for their immense contribution to the field and released a souvenir on the occasion.
