Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb claimed Thursday that violence and crime against women have reduced considerably in the state ever since the BJP-IPFT government came to power.
The BJP-Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) unseated the 25-year-old Left Front government in March last year.
"After the new government came (to power) atrocities against women have reduced and general violence has also come down considerably. All these things were possible due to the positive role played by the state police and state paramilitary Tripura State Rifles (TSR)," Deb, who is also the Home Minister of the state, said while inaugurating the 'Tripura Police Week' at A D Nagar Police Ground here.
Deb said that the police should build a good relationship with the people of the state, which would help them in handling law and order in a better way.
"If the police keep a good relation with the people, the rate of crime will slow down. It would help maintaining law and order in the state in a better way," he said.
Deb said he was in favour of a crime-free state which could be achieved if police and people work in a cordial manner" and Tripura can emerge as a model state.
