"While sitting on shoulder of RJD President Lalu Prasad its not possible for Kumar to calm criminals," senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said in a statement, while reacting to Kumar asking policemen at a reward function to deal with criminals sternly.
Kumar, at an award function yesterday, had asked the policemen to work for achieving twofold target of crime control and an improved law and order in the state.
"Police stations are being sold on recommendation of ruling party legislators and police officials are deployed keeping in view the coming elections. Under such circumstance, can the CM explain how the police would succeed in calming criminals?" Sushil Modi said.
He alleged that efforts were being made on part of 'musclemen' like Ritlal Yadav and Mohammad Shahbuddin to pressurise witnesses with the help of government so that they could come out of jail before elections.
From January till March this year 14 incidents of kidnapping for ransom has taken place. During the same period 702 cases of murder, 104 dacoities and 357 of loot have been reported, said the leader of the opposition in Legislative Council.
He sought to know from Kumar why speed of trial has been slowed and how many persons have been jailed for committing crime in the past two years when BJP and JD-U broke up.
