A Sub Inspector and two constables were injured as the accused took advantage of the situation and fled.
According to SP(City) Praveen Ranjan, a team led by Sub Inspector Ravi Bhushan Sharma raided the village to nab one Ankit, who had had reportedly kidnapped a girl five days ago.
The team rescued the victim and was returning with the accused when their vehicle was surrounded by the villagers who had 'lathis' (sticks).
"Their vehicle was pelted with stones, resulting in injuries to Sub Inspector Ravi Bhushan, constables Sanjay Sharma and two other policemen. The accused Ankit managed to escape from custody," Ranjan said.
