A criminal facing charges of murder and robberies had been arrested along with three of his associates following a shootout in which an aide was injured, in outer Delhi's Begumpur area, police said today.
All four accused identified as Deepak (23), the wanted criminal, and his associates Ashish (23), the one who received a bullet injury, Pradeep (22) and Sunil (32), have been arrested, DCP (Outer) Vikramjit Singh said.
According to police, a team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Bawana sub-division, which was tracking Deepak, intercepted his vehicle in Begumpur area yesterday evening.
When Deepak and his associates were asked to step out of their car, one of them opened fire on police, triggering retaliation.
During the encounter, a bullet hit Ashish near his chest and had to be rushed to a hospital, where he had to undergo a surgery and was stated to be out of danger by night.
While Deepak, Pradeep and Sunil were nabbed after the gun fight, Ashish was arrested later.
When in jail earlier, Deepak met one Ajay, who also jumped parole last year and went absconding since then. Deepak recently joined a gang headed jointly by Ajay and his brother Vinay, who had given him a contract for killing their rival gang head Devender Rathi.
On January 29, Deepak and his associates allegedly shot dead Rathi, police said.
