"Those who are criticising me have not been able to understand the concept of the scheme," Dikshit said when her reaction was sought on the criticism of her comment.

She also said her comments were taken out of context as she was explaining about broad contours of the scheme under which a monthly cash subsidy of Rs 600 will be transferred directly into Aadhaar-linked bank account of the senior-most female member of two lakh poor families.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had yesterday launched the food security scheme.

In her address at the launch of 'Dilli Anna Shri Yojna' yesterday, Dikshit had explained various aspects of the scheme and said people can buy anything they require with the help of the financial assistance.

She went on to say that poor families can use the amount for getting rice, dal and wheat for a family of five. She had said that the beneficiaries can use the component to buy medicines, milk and eggs depending on the situation.

"The scheme has been launched to support those who are not covered by the Public Distribution System. We want to support those who are not getting subsidised food items. We are extending a humble help," Dikshit said today, rubbishing the criticism of BJP.

Attacking Dikshit for her comment, BJP leader Vijay Goel said the Chief Minister had no idea of the cost of flour and pulses.

"Dikshit has never been to a jhuggi cluster, unauthorised colony, village... That is why despite being a woman, she has no idea of 'atta' and 'dal'....Before elections this scheme has been brought to lure voters," he said.

BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also hit out at the Chief Minister over her reported statement. "It is punching a poor man on his face after inflation....The Delhi Government has carried out economic blockade of the poor," he said.
