While the first survey held in August revealed that anewari was at 57 per cent, the second survey conducted in October showed the crop production percentage at 44 per cent.
"Entire district is reeling under the drought condition and the crop annewari is found to be at 44 paise during the survey conducted in October 14. We have sent the findings to the state government requesting it to declare the district as drought hit," district collector Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal said here today, adding that over 2148 villages in 16 tehsils are reeling under the dry spell where crops have either been withered off or the production is much less than what is actually expected by farmers.
"It reveals that the anewari is less than 50 percent in all the tehsils which ultimately gives the district the status of drought hit," the collector said.
Earlier, some farmers had alleged that the divisional commissioner did not visit their farms while doing a anewari survey but singled out farmers of rich farmers only,
"We may have a third and final round of crop survey in December and the outcome would be considered by government to set its parameters for granting concessions and relief to the affected farmers," Mahiwal added.
