Rahman Sheikh, a CRPF jawan of 196 Battalion, was arrested yesterday after he confessed to have killed his wife, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Seraikela) Avinash Kumar said.
He had initially told the police that his wife Shabnam committed suicide in the wee hours of Thursday by jumping off the second floor of the quarter, but the nature of injury marks on the 23-year-old victim made the officers suspicious, Kumar said.
The woman had injury marks on her neck but no wound on the head, the officer explained.
But after an intense grilling, the jawan broke down and confessed to have strangulated his wife with a rope before dumping her body near the staff quarters, he said, adding that the couple had been married for three years.
