The incident took place at around 11.15 AM when a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force's 231st battalion and district force was patrolling to ensure security to the under-constructionAranpur(Dantewada)-Jagargunda (Sukma) road which passes through the restive dense forests under Aranpur police station limits, a senior police official told PTI.
When the security men were cordoning-off a patch between Kondapara and Kondasawli villages, the Maoists detonated the improvised explosive device (IED) and started firing in which two head constables were injured, he said.
"Head constable Kamal Singh succumbed to his injuries while being airlifted to Raipur. Another head constable, Anil Kumar, was shifted to a hospital in the state capital," the official said, adding that both the personnel belong to the CRPF's 231st battalion.
The troopers have many a times suffered loss in the pressure IEDblasts triggered by Naxalson this route in the recent past, he added.
