CRPF marks success in fight against Maoists

Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) marked its 74th anniversary today with a high rate of success in its fight against the left-wing extremism (LWE) in Jharkhand.
As many as 46 naxalites were killed during encounters and anti-naxal operations in the state so far this year, a release by the para-military force said here.
Assisting the state police in its fight against LWE, a total of 174 naxalites of different extremist groups, including CPI (Maoist), were arrested this year, it said.
A haul of 1,730 kg explosives,1700 ammunitions,298 landmines/IED/claymore mines and 100 regular weapons were recovered during the anti-naxal operations.
Following their success against LWE, CRPF personnel were awarded this year with Shaurya Chakra (one), police medal for gallantry (21), police medal for meritorious service (one) and DGs Disc (150), the release said.
Apart from its pursuit after naxalites, the CRPF is also engaged in the welfare and improvement of the local people undertaking various activities like Civic Action Programme, Skill Building Programme, Special Recruitment rallies and regular medical check-up camps, the release said.

During the year 2012-13, a total of 452 local boys and girls were trained in Security Guard duties, beautician course, housekeeping, nursing, motor driving, computer & mobile repairing, mid wife course housekeeping and child care, the release said.
CRPF filled 2,272 vacancies in the rank of constable, the release said and added that 92-year-old Khairrunnisha, a Ranchi resident, was adopted on September 9 by the para-military force to look after her needs.
"On this auspicious occasion of the 74th Anniversary of the Force, I reiterate our commitment and assure you that CRPF will continue to perform the duties mandated to it with great professionalism and devotion. We also salute our martyrs who made supreme sacrifice in the service of our beloved nation," IG (CRPF) M V Rao said in the release said.
