CRPF today said it would remove a camp in the interior area of Srinagar as part of a regular exercise to reduce the presence of the paramilitary force from areas where it is no longer required.
We have set in motion a process to remove the camp set up in 1990 in Kawdara in downtown area of the city. It is an old camp and its removal is part of a policy decision, PRO CRPF Ashish Jha told PTI.
Jha said the decision is part of a regular process to reduce the footprints of the force from areas where it is no longer needed.
"It is part of a routine process where the deployment of the CRPF is revised regularly. We recently removed a bunker in Tral (in south Kashmirs Pulwama district). This is a normal procedure," he said.
The CRPF has removed around 50 bunkers from the city since 2010.
Meanwhile, ruling PDP MLC and Srinagar district president Khurshid Alam claimed that the CRPF camp was being removed under an order from the government.
He expressed hope that a CRPF bunker in Sarafkadal area of the city would be removed soon.
