With reports of Left Wing Extremists (LEW) planning a corridor through Odisha, CRPF today said it would like to ensure that the Maoists fail in their move.
"Sambalpur and Deogarh are important places for setting up of the Jharkhand-Odisha-Chhatisgarh corridor and the strategy to check the movement of Maoist in Deogarh and Sambalpur was discussed at a meeting," CRPF Director General Prakash Mishra said after visiting Sambalpur and Cobra Battalion camp inside Sunabeda Sanctuary of Nuapada district.
He told reporters after a review meeting that the movement of red rebels in Boudh, Angul and Kandhamal districts were discussed, but Maoist activities came down in the Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundergarh region.
Mishra informed that plans were on to shift the CRPF deployed in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts to Kalahandi and Bargarh.
"Discussion on the infrastructure at Bargarh and Kalahandi also took place at the meeting," Mishra said.
On the Maoist activities in Nuapada district, Mishra said, "The CRPF is in control of Sunabeda area, which has resulted in decrease of Maoist activity in Sunabeda".
