The book 'Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief', written by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Lawrence Wright, delves into the history and inner workings of the Church of Scientology, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The writer claims Cruise, 50, repeatedly consulted with former US President Bill Clinton, lobbying him to get Blair's help in getting the Church of Scientology declared a tax-deductible charitable organization in the UK.

But the 'Mission: Impossible' star was told he would be better off contacting Blair's wife Cherie who would "understand the details".

In 1999, an application for charity status in England was rejected as it had no "public benefit".
