CSI assures support for IT hub in Vizag

The Computer Society of India (CSI) will play a constructive role in making Visakhapatnam the next IT destination in Andhra Pradesh, a senior official said today.
The Andhra Pradesh government had announced a mega IT hub at Visakhpatnam in the form of Information Technology towers in its IT policy 2014-2020, CSI Visakhapatnam chapter Chairman T K Chand told reporters here.
The Vizag CSI chapter and RINL have been in the forefront for adopting many IT initiatives, said Chand, who is the director (finance) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhaptnam Steel Plant.
The CSI has 70 chapters, 416 student branches and more than 90,000 members, including famous leaders from various industries, brilliant scientists and dedicated academicians, he said.
It has MoUs with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA, British Computer Society, England, Information Systems Audit and Control Association and Center for Development of Advanced Computing and working since 1965 for spreading IT awareness in India.
Vizag could contribute only Rs 1,600 crore towards IT exports during 2013-14, it was Rs 1,445 crores in 2012-13 as against Rs 1,200 crores in 2011-12, Chand said.
