CSL launches vessel for DG Lighthouse

The Centre is formulating a comprehensive ship building policy which is expected to be announced soon, a top official today said.
Speaking at a function here after launching of a Buoy Tender Vessel of the Director General of Light Houses and Light ships, Shipping Secretary Vishwapati Trivedi said "the comprehensive ship building policy, which is being formulated, is expected to be announced soon."
The vessel has been named 'Indira Point' by his wife Mona Trivedi in honour of 20 personnel of Department of Light Houses and Light ships who died during the 2004 Tsunami.
The vessel is a specialized multi-purpose which will be used for transportation and placement of buoys in position at deep seas, recovering and maintenance of buoys, towing and mooring of light vessels, distress management, transportation of equipment and material in containers, for repair of light houses in remote islands.
CSL Chairman and Managing Director, Commodore K Subramaniam, Cochin Port Chairman Paul Antony, Director General of Light Houses and Light Ships, Captain A K Surej and Director Shipping Corporation of India, Captain Devadas were also present.
The Shipping Secretary was appreciative of the good work done by CSL and lauded the quality of work done by the workers. He also outlined the challenges ahead in the ship building industry and identified construction of LNG vessels and dredgers as areas with huge potential in the future.
