The cereal has been released for cultivation in Assam, Manipur, Odisha, West Bengal, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand as well as southern states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, he said.
The grain was identified by Varietal Identification Committee, under the chairmanship of Dr I S Solanki, Assistant Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
The new variety of the cereal grain, is better in yield and nutritional quality. It has been developed by a team of scientists of Fodder Section of the university, Khokhar said.
It yielded 454.3 qunitals per hectares of green fodder and dry matter of 96.2 q/ha, and it contained protein as high as 8.7 per cent.
Besides, its seeds yield potential was 20.5 q/ha and it was moderately resistant against leaf blight disease, he said.
Khokhar said recently another variety of oats OS 377 developed at this university was released for cultivation in central zone of the country.
