The Calcutta University has urged West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi to extend the term of its interim registrar Rajagopal Dhar Chakraborti.
Vice-Chancellor Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee said today that a letter has been sent to the office of the governor, who is also the chancellor of the university, requesting for a six-month extension for Chakraborti.
"We have intimated this since the appointment of a full-term registrar would take some more time," she said.
Chakraborti's tenure is scheduled to end on October 16.
Chakraborti had joined the university on April 15 after the previous interim registrar Soma Bandyopadhyay had left.
The CU registrar's post had fallen vacant when the last full time occupant of the post Basab Chaudhuri had been appointed interim vice-chancellor of West Bengal State University in September 2015.
