Indian furniture designers are collaborating with those from Poland to create hybrid objects, which fuses desi craft sensibilities with Polish production techniques.
Designer Gunjan Gupta who runs industrial and interior design firm Studio Wrap has teamed up with Polish designers Tomek Rygalik and Gosia Rygalik under a new initiative "Polish-IndoDesign Project 2015" helmed by the Polish Institute here.
Students from both the countries are also participating in the project, which will develop a series of products to be showcased globally in 2016.
Gupta, Gosia and Tomek are furniture designers who represent culturally significant design philosophies of their respective countries on an international stage.
The Institute, which recently moved to a new location here is part of the Polish diplomatic mission to India and seeks to promote and foster Polish culture through art music and literature in collaboration with established Indian cultural organisations.
"The show which is a kick-off of a bigger project by Studio Rygalik and Studio Wrap, offers a cultural exchange platform between the two cultures," says Tomek Rygalik of Rygalik studios.
Gupta, who will have on display, works from her existing collection says,"The exhibition will set forth similarities and differences between the two cultures through Indian cultural craft stories and Polish industrial productions."
"Both the societies are very resourceful, owing to their turbulent histories. Due to the unavailability of things, they have developed ways to cut corners to find a solution," says Rygalik.
