Curfew clamped after violent protests in Samba

Authorities clamped curfew in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir tonight and the Army was on stand by after violent protests erupted over an alleged incident of cow slaughter.
"Curfew has been imposed and the Army was put on stand by in view of violent protests triggered by some act by some miscreants in Samba this evening," Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pawan Kotwal told PTI.
The Jammu-Pathankote highway is blocked due to the violent protests and official vehicle of District Magistrate Samba Sheetal Nunda was also set on fire. The DM had rushed to the spot soon after the incident came to light.
An incident of cow slaughter was reported from Muraeen village near Raya Morh in Samba district this evening, officials said, adding that a large number of people assembled at highway and blocked it amid violent incidents.
Some more vehicles had been set on fire, they said adding that protesters clashed with the police, who resorted to cane charge and teargas shelling to disperse them.
In view of the situation, authorities tonight ordered imposition of curfew in the district and army was put on stand by to bring the situation back to normalcy, they said.
