Apprehending law and order problems, authorities here today imposed curfew in parts of Srinagar city to prevent any Muharram processions.
"Curfew has been imposed in seven police station areas of the city as a precautionary measure," District Magistrate Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Shah said.
He said that restrictions on the movement of people have been imposed as there was an apprehension of law and order problem in lieu of some groups planning to take out Muharram processions.
The imposition of the curfew led to traffic jams in areas where the restrictions were not in place.
Most of the schools and other educational institutions, offices and business establishments in and around the curfew bound areas remained closed, official sources said.
The sources said there were no reports of any untoward incident from any part of the city.
