"The curfew was relaxed for two hours in the morning from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM for women and children and for one hour from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM," Raisen SP I P Kulshreshta told reporters here.
The indefinite curfew was imposed yesterday after a clash between police and farmers, who were enraged over delay in procurement of wheat at designated centres and staged a road blockade at NH-12 (Jaipur-Jabalpur).
The farmers allegedly attacked police with sticks and set afire nearly half-a-dozen vehicles belonging to police and administrative officials. In retaliation, police resorted to cane charge, firing in the air and burst teargas shells to control the mob.
A farmer was killed and other other sustained bullet injuries, while 24 policemen were injured in the violence.
Kulshreshta said RSS affiliate Bhartiya Kisan Sangh state president Shiv Kumar Sharma and 41 others were today produced before a court in Bareli which remanded them in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, traffic has been diverted via Piparia town and no vehicle was allowed to pass through Bareli town during the curfew period. Even media persons were not allowed to enter the town.
