Curfew relaxed for the day in Rajouri

Curfew was relaxed for the day today in the Rajouri town as no untoward incident was reported, a senior official said.
Curfew was clamped in the town on Tuesday after some VHP activists burnt terror outfit IS's flag, leading to protests by minority groups who said that the flag bore religious scripture.
"We relaxed the curfew from 9 AM today and as the situation remained peaceful, we extended it till the evening," Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Deepti Uppal told PTI.
She said that the situation was fast returning to normal in the town and the authorities would take the decision to completely lift the curfew as soon the situation becomes fully normal.
"The situation has returned to normal there were no clashes or any untoward incident reported after we lifted the curfew from the town", Uppal said.
She said that though the curfew remained relaxed for the day it would be reimposed during the night.

Meanwhile the religious scholars of the two communities today appealed to the members of the two communities to maintain peace in the town.
"We appeal to the people to maintain peace as the religious scholars of the two communities have already spoken to each other and resolved to settle the issue amicably", Molvi Shahnawaz Hussain, a religious scholar said.
On Tuesday, clashes were reported in parts of Old city area as some youths, while defying curfew, pelted stones at policemen.
Leaders of both the communities during a meeting held on the same day decided to resolve the issue amicably.
