Acting on tip off, sleuths of the Customs Headquarter Preventive, Shillong intercepted the truck bearing Nagaland registration number near Kalain and seized 804 kg of cannabis hidden in its secret chamber.
According to the Customs, NER, Shillong deputy commissioner Isaac R Kharkongor, the truck defied the signal of the Customs and tried to speed away but it was intercepted after a hot chase.
He said 84 packets of ganja which were found concealed in the truck were in compressed form and the packets were wrapped with adhesive tapes.
He further informed that initial investigation revealed that the consignment of ganja was loaded in Tripura and was meant for delivery at Bihar.
Both the driver and handyman of the truck were arrested and a case registered under the Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
