The city-based private power utility firm said that it currently had over three million customers, who are spread across its distribution area of 400 square kilometres in the city.
"Generally at least one member of a family has an account with a post office and regularly visits it. Post offices are safe, conveniently located in the eastern and western suburbs near railway stations and are open on most working days. The timings are also comfortable and customers can pay their bills at any post office irrespective of their place of residence or office," a Reliance spokeperson was quoted as saying in a release.
The company said that post offices could accept cash upto Rs 20,000 as payment for a customer's electricity bill.
The company said it provides as many as 2,000 payment avenues to consumers for bill payment apart from physical payment options at Reliance Energy offices spread across its distribution areas and post offices.
Customers can also pay their electricity bills at cheque drop boxes, through internet and mobile banking, credit and debit cards, among others, it added.
