The lift, carrying the customers, got stuck between the third and second floor, due to sudden power failure, which was the order of the day, around 6 PM, police said.

Though the generator was switched on immediately, the lift remained stuck without moving up or down, and those trapped started screaming, police said.

Rescue and technical persons rushed to the spot and managed to pull the lift up to the third floor, and those trapped came out.

Some persons blamed overloading and power failure for the incident, they said.
