Customs officials seize heroin at city airport; one arrested

Customs officials have seized heroin worth Rs 11 lakh from a person who hid packets of the contraband in his underwear and gold valued at Rs 10 lakh in three separate incidents at the airport here over the last two days.
The officials of the air intelligence unit, intercepted Mohamed Jubair, bound for Colombo, on a tip off that he was carrying "some contraband" yesterday.
On being searched, the officials seized three cylindrical shaped packets concealed in his underwear. The powder inside the packet was found to be "heroin", a release said.
"The powder in the packets weighed 111 grams, valued at Rs 11 lakh," it said, adding that the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
In the second incident, the sleuths seized 193 grams of 22 karat gold valued at Rs 5.40 lakh from a passenger who arrived here from Kuwait on November 8, the release said.
Similarly, today, 30 gold rods weighing 145 grams, valued at Rs 4.28 lakh, was seized from Mohammed Ibrahim who arrived here from Colombo, it said.
"Further investigation was on", the release added.
