Over 36,000 complaints of alleged corruption were received by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) last year, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
"As per tentative data available with the CVC, a total of 36,101 complaints have been received in 2013. Out of them, about 1,310 complaints have been sent for investigation report or factual report," Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
"Department wise pendency of complaints sent for investigation and reports is not readily available in the Commission," he said.
These complaints are directly forwarded to Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs), who act as distant arm of the CVC, for investigation and report.
The CVC had received a total of 37,208 complaints in 2012, which is 113 per cent more than the previous year. The probity watchdog had received 17,407 complaints in 2011.
