The Goa government has awarded the contract for laying athletic tracks at Bambolim and Mapusa to 'Sports Infratech Limited' at a cost of over Rs 12 crore.
This was after Organising Committee chairman Shripad Yasso Naik resigned when tainted Commonwealth Games official, Rajkumar Sacheti was appointed as an advisor for November 2-10 event along with V V Saxena.
It has been learnt that Sacheti, former Joint Director General CWG who was found misusing his official position by the Central Vigilance Commission, played a big role in getting the contract awarded to the tainted firm.
Sacheti is dealing with arbitration cases of the CWG but what has surprised many was his recommendation for the firm despite knowing its past credentials.
The firm, which had been operating as the 'Jubilee Sports Private Limited' during the CWG before changing its name to Sports Infratech after CBI registered FIR against it in 2011, is also facing another case in Kerala for laying a track in 2010 that was later rendered unsuitable for competitions.
