"Cyanide" killer convicted in two murder cases

A court here today convicted a serial killer, known for his alleged modus operandi of killing his victims' using cyanide poison, in cases involving the murder of two women in the district.
The quantum of punishment will be pronounced by the court on December 19.
The fourth additional district and sessions court Judge B K Naik found Mohan Kumar, accused of killing several young girls by administrating cyanide to them, guilty of murdering Leelavathi, a resident of Vamadapadavu, and Anitha, a resident of Barimar village of Bantval taluk.
Leelavathi was taken to Mysore on the pretext of an interview and killed by giving cyanide pill at Mysore KSRTC bus stand. She had gone missing on September 9, 2005, according to police.
Counsel for Kumar had maintained that none of the post-mortem report had mentioned presence of cyanide.
Mohan was convicted under various IPC sections including 302 (punishment for murder).
