Under Hyderabad Police Commissionerate limits, cyber crime showed almost 150 per cent rise with 162 cases registered in 2013 as compared to 47 in 2012. In Cyberabad Commissionerate such cases rose from 62 to 103, according to AP Police.
A total of 640 cyber crime cases were registered in Andhra Pradesh in 2013 under Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates as well as different districts in the state, which is up from 490 recorded during 2012, they said.
As awareness is growing among people, more and more victims of cyber crime are coming forward to lodge complaints at the district level and in the rural region, which is why the cases have gone up.
However, only five cases were recorded in 2013 with the Crime Investigation Department (CID) here as against 106 booked in 2012, the official said.
Majority of the cases were related to online job frauds, abusive mails, phishing, cases on posting of objectionable content targeting women and girls on social networking sites and sending vulgar emails, police said.
The victims were targeted not only from Andhra Pradesh and different parts of the country, but also from abroad with servers based in foreign countries, they said.
