Cyclone 'Mahasen', though most likely to hit Mizoram, would be considerably weakened when reaching the state, Science and Techonology officials said.
Principal Scientific Officer Dr Vanlalzara told PTI that the wind speed was predicted by the Cyclone Warning Division of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi at 55 to 65 Km/hour.
Quoting IMD forecast Vanlalzara, however, said that heavy rainfall was likely to occur at many places in the state in the next 36 hours.
The news of the impending cyclone hitting Mizoram on Thursday night and accompanying heavy rain created panic among people prompting the state government to declare half holiday today and full holiday on Friday for educational institutions.
Aizawl wore a deserted look this afternoon with only few vehicles seen plying on the roads while many shops downed shutters early with most people keeping indoors.
