The relatives of slain rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and members of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti today demanded that a "special task force" be formed to trace the two absconding accused named in the CBI chargesheet.
On August 20, 2013, Dabholkar, an anti-superstition crusader, was shot dead allegedly by two unidentified men while he was on a morning walk on the Omkareshwar bridge in the city.
"After the arrest of Sanatan Sanstha activist Virendra Tawde, the CBI has failed to nab Sarang Akolkar and Vinay Pawar, who are absconding," Dabholkar's son Hameed told reporters.
"We demand that a special task force be formed by the Centre and the state government to nab Pawar and Akolkar, who have been named in the Dabholkar murder case as well as in the murder case of Comrade Govind Pansare as they pose a danger to the society," he added.
On September 2, 2016, the Kolhapur police had taken the custody of Tawde, earlier arrested by the CBI in the Dabholkar murder case.
Pansare, known for his rationalist views, was shot dead in Kolhapur in Maharashtra on February 20, 2015.
