At a meeting of 'Sikh Youth of Punjab' here today, the organisation was of the view that growing apostasy, proliferation of deras and large-scale corruption in politics were the main reasons behind drug menace in the state.

The office-bearers of the outfit have decided to hold a series of public meetings on these problems and to create awareness against drugs among youth, SYP head Ranbir Singh said.

SYP vice-president Paramjit Singh and general secretary Manjit Singh said there was something deeply wrong that youths were distancing themselves from mainstream Sikhism and several deras had mushroomed.

At the meeting, Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh urged youth leaders to actively participate in politics and cleanse the system of corruption.
