Amarinder had yesterday opposed SGPC's move to set up a memorial for those killed during 'Operation Bluestar' in the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar but favoured a peace memorial outside the complex for those who lost their lives during the days of militancy in Punjab.

Reacting to Amarinder's suggestion, Dal Khalsa secretary Kanwar Pal Singh said no Sikh institution would think of constructing a memorial for "tyrant cops and anti-Sikh politicians".

He also slammed Amarinder's argument that setting up a memorial about Operation Bluestar within the precincts of the Darbar Sahib will defile its sanctity.

The 28th anniversary of Operation Bluestar, launched to flush out militants from the Golden Temple in 1984, was observed at Akal Takht on June 6.

To mark the occasion, bricks for a memorial for those who were killed in the operation by security forces were laid by the Sikh clergy led by Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh and SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar.

Both BJP and Congress had opposed the memorial on the grounds that it may trigger unrest in Punjab and would "patronise separatist agenda".
