Dalit families allege unauthorised demolition of houses

Some persons allegedly demolished the houses of three Dalit families at village Chittaranjanpur in Chamorshi tehsil of the district two days ago.
Bandu Gaddalwar, Vinayak Raut and Nirmala Kurkhede told the reporters at a press conference here that they were living in these shanties, standing on an open land, for the last 15 years and the village panchayat had levied tax on them too.
However, on January 11, some present and past members of panchayat and others demolished the shanties with a JCB machine, they said, alleging that Ashti police in the district where they lodged a complaint were not taking any action.

Ashti police station officer Umesh Besarkar however said that enquiry will be conducted and necessary action will be taken.
