Social activist Anjali Damania today began an indefinite dharna (sit-in) at Azad Maidan here demanding immediate payment of salaries and other dues of the 3,000 odd employees of Cambata Aviation.
Damania, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, demanded to declare MIAL as the "principal employer" for the ground handling agency which has ceased operations in Mumbai and New Delhi.
Affected employees and their family members also joined Damania in the protest and held various union leaders responsible for their sorry state of affairs.
Addressing the gathering of aggrieved employees and their family members, Damania said, "I have a list of 57 people who used to be the so-called employees on payroll in the Cambata Aviation but never did any job as they belonged to various political parties.
"There was a systematic plan to close the company and hand over its operations to other agency without settling the dues to the existing employees."
Putting forward her demands on behalf of the aggrieved employees, Damania said, "Our demand is to declare MIAL as the 'principal employer' for the closed aviation company and the dues of the workers should be paid by it."
She also demanded that the state government and central agencies do the needful to release the dues of aggrieved employees.
"It is extremely unfortunate that on one side they have not been paid their salaries for last 18-months and even the provident fund too has been held up," Damania said.
The social activist said she has lodged a written complaint with the Enforcement Directorate in the month of January this year along with "clinching documents", but there has been no progress at all.
