The film starring Ryan Gosling is based on James Hansen's biography "First Man: The Life Of Neil A Armstrong" and tells the story of NASA's mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong during the years 1961-1969, reported Variety.
Chazelle and Gosling previously collaborated on "La La Land" which won the filmmaker a best director Academy Award this year.
Universal studio announced the project in late December.
Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing the movie through their Temple Hill Entertainment banner alongside Chazelle and Gosling.
